Chhau mask is a traditional craft of Purulia district of West Bengal. This mask is mainly used in Chhau dance mainly for mythology characters such as Durga, Mahishasur, Laxmi, Kali, Kartik, Ram, Sita, Ravana ect. This masks are very colourful and have multiple ornaments surrounds the face for which the mask itself became very big in size.
Chhau mask is mainly by the artist of Sutradhār community in Purulia. This masks are makes with paper, glue and facial feature is made of clay after completing the moulding and sun drying process this masks are coloured and decorated by the artisan for final finish.
